Creating a “Green” Community—December 3, 2008

With so much attention being given to the green building movement and the advantages the manufactured housing industry has in producing green homes, can a manufactured home community owner do more than just purchase “green homes?” How can you create a “green community?” Marrying the home to the land efficiently offers a “green” challenge and an opportunity. This webinar will explore:

  • Cost-effective techniques for adding “green” options to new and existing communities;
  • How to incorporate “green” features into community upgrade/renovation projects;
  • Simple “green” pointers you can share with your residents that they can implement at home and benefit the entire community.

Speaker: Don Westphal, ASLA, Donald C. Westphal, Associates.

Don Westphal is a landscape architect and site planner specializing in manufactured housing community design. Developments planned by the firm have won seven of the “Community of the Year” awards from the NCC. In addition, Don was the recipient of the “Supplier Person of the Year” award presented by the MHI Suppliers Division. In 2006, Don was inducted into the Manufacturing Housing and Recreational Vehicle Hall of Fame. Don has written numerous articles on planning and imaging for trade journals, is a regular speaker at seminars nationwide, is co-author of the books, Navigating the Manufactured Housing Zoning Process, and Renewing your Manufactured Home Community and is author of The Community Image Library, that is available on CD.
